Ohio Latino Affairs Commission

Represents and advises key policy makers in regards to Hispanic issues, and connects Latino organizations throughout Ohio. Has a list of state-wide resources for Latinos on their website, including a list of interpreters, attorneys, health and social service resources, church listings and a directory of English as a Second Language (ESOL) services.

Offers several free services to the Hispanic community including:

Asian American Community Services (AACS)

Provides a variety of services for the Asian community:

    • After school and summer tutoring and mentoring programs for Asian Americans in grades K to 12, including educational, ESOL and college prep activities
    • Family Support Program (counseling) for victims of bullying, domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and hate crimes
    • 24-hour interpreting / translation services
    • Computer and English classes
    • Career and college development workshops
    • Free health clinic and Hepatitis B testing

Columbus City Schools Adult & Community Education (ACE)

Offers support services for families, with classes at different sites throughout Franklin County. They have free GED prep and ESOL classes for adults, and basic skills literacy classes for adults, as well as vocational training programs for adults.  They also offer low-cost online adult classes.

Dominican Learning Center

Tutors adults 18 years and older in reading, writing, math, and computers, as well as GED preparation and learning English in the English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program. Students are not charged for tutorial services, but those who are financially able are asked to purchase basic texts and materials.

Ethiopian Tewahedo Social Services (ETSS)

Provides ESOL services for adults, as well as many free programs for youth. They serve all immigrants, and have a focus on serving African, Asian and Middle Eastern immigrants.

International Neighborhood Coffee Hour (INCH)

Provides free small group ESOL classes at the University Baptist Church for women interested in improving their English. Child care is provided while the mothers attend classes.

Serving Our Neighbors (SON) Ministries

Provides many free services for children and adults in Columbus, including a free lunch summer camp, a free legal clinic, ESOL classes for adults, and referrals to health services and jobs. They also provide one-on-one homework help and tutoring to children whose parents attend the ESOL classes.

Provides a variety of services for Somali youth and adults.

    • Free adult English (ESOL) classes and after school programs for Somali youth
