Parenting a Child with Special Needs

St. Vincent Family Center Community & Family Services

    • Outpatient Family Services is a family-centered counseling service for children, ages 2-18 and their families. They also offer psychiatric services to children. Families and caregivers are encouraged to be actively involved in the treatment of the children.
    • Early Childhood Mental Health programs are Early Childhood Mental Health- Consultation, Early Childhood Mental Health- Treatment, Helping the Noncompliant Child, and Incredible Years Parenting Program provide individual, family and group mental health consultation services and outpatient therapy to children and their families.
    • Community Support Services Program has two components: Community Psychiatric Support Treatment (CPST) and Intensive Home Based Treatment (IHBT), both provide mental health and case management services to families with children 2-18 years of age (age 21 if considered to have a disability) who are having difficulty in school or at home, have poor coping skills and have mental, emotional and /or behavioral disturbances.

St. Vincent Family Center Therapeutic Programs

All these programs work with children who have behavior, emotional and/or social challenges. Their staff works closely with parents/caregivers to identify child and family strengths.

    • Therapeutic Preschool Program: Work with children ages 3 to 6.
    • Therapeutic School Age Program: The goal of the program is for children, once returned to a regular school setting, to successfully maintain their behavior and academic performance.
    • Therapeutic Afterschool Program: Services youth from 5-1/2 to 12 year of age. It is group-based; designed to prevent out-of-home placement or to aid in the transition from a more to less restrictive setting.
