4-H – University of Illinois Extension

4-H is a program for youth to learn life skills. Youth learn how to run their own club, make their own decisions, follow through on responsibilities, and plan and carry out events. 4-H is a voluntary, informal education program for young people ages 8-18.

Boys & Girls Club of Rockford

Boys&Girls Club offers many education/tutoring programs for youth in the Rockford area including, “Character and Leadership Development”, “Education and Career Development”, “Health and Life Skills”, “The Arts” and “Sports, Fitness and Recreation.” Affordable to all youth. Clubs reach out to kids who cannot afford, or may lack access to, other community programs. Dues are $15 per year for Club membership with scholarships available for those who qualify.

La Voz Latina

La Voz Latina is a non-profit resource center serving Latino clients of all ages. Offers multiple services/programs including: a home visit program for pregnant Latina teens (call La Voz directly in Boone County, WCHD in Winnebago); prenatal and parenting classes; afterschool tutoring and mentor programs; family support services; bilingual parent/child literacy classes; English as a second language classes; adult education & job placement classes including consumer education workshops, small business classes, and employment workshops in partnership with area businesses and institution; scholarships; community development programs; orientation/advocacy/assistance for immigrants/refugees including applicable public benefits; citizenship classes; medical and legal translation; interpretation; information and referral assistance; and Spanish classes for professionals. ID Penbrook&Northeast Branch – provides swimming lessons, preschool gymnastics, preschool sports, babysitting services for parents using facilities, and non-physical preschool programs.

Camp Winnebago – provides kinder camp (summer).

Big Brothers/Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a branch of the YMCA of Rock River Valley that provides successful mentoring programs for all children who need and want them. Some of the programs include “Community-Based Menotring”, “School-Based Mentoring” and “RAISE- Reaching and Inspiring Students for Education.”

Teen REACH provides FREE academic tutoring, cultural exposure, adult mentoring, fun field trips and recreation for youth ages 11 to 14 (6th to 8th grade). Teen REACH is an after school program held at West Middle School and St. Elizabeth Community Center.

Youth Achievers
An Afro-centric socialization program for Middle School youth ages 12-14. This program features interesting, challenging workshops and exciting fun filled educational field trips.

Youth in Action
Youth in Action is a program for boys and girls entering grades 6-9. the program promotes community service, leadership, and friendship. Program meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday 9-11:30am to complete community service projects. On Fridays, students attend fun-filled trips to various locations. The program is FREE of charge. Meeting location is I.D. Pennock Branch.

Learn to Earn
Learn To Earn is FREE program that provides extensive mentoring, counseling, job readiness, life skills, job shadowing and internships for in-school youth ages 16-18. This program also provides academic tutoring and helps improve study and social skills.

Link to Success
Link to Success is a FREE GED program for young adults ages 17-21 that includes academic tutoring, basic job and life skills training, and job shadowing.
