Health Services for Pregnant Women

Step One

Run by Physicians Care Connection, Step One connects pregnant women with affordable prenatal care and resources for a healthy pregnancy. The goal of Step One is to connect pregnant women with health services early in their pregnancy so that they deliver a healthy full-term baby, detect any potential health concerns, learn about nutrition and breastfeeding and receive help accessing community resources.

Planned Parenthood

Provides low-cost sexual health care, including birth control, emergency contraception, HIV/STD testing, care for LGBTQ teens, reproductive health care, pregnancy testing, abortion care / advice and more. They accept patients with and without insurance.

Baby & Me Tobacco Free Program at Columbus Public Health

Free program for pregnant women and caregivers of infants up to 6 months of age to help them quit smoking. Women who take part in the program go to 4 learning sessions and take a monthly breath test. Every month that a mom stays smoke free after their baby is born, they get a free voucher for free diapers and groceries up to 12 months of age.

Celebrate One / Baby Bump & Beyond

Provides free information, resources and support for pregnant / parenting women and teens. Baby Bump & Beyond is a direct connection to help families find the level of support and resources needed through every stage of growth–for mom, dad, caregiver, child and the entire family. These neighborhood resource lists are extremely helpful in finding resources in and around your neighborhood. They provide detailed listings of free and low cost health care, vision care, dental care, prescription help, food pantries, transportation, job help, transportation, pregnancy resources and much more. They are updated frequently and reviewed by the Columbus Public Health social work team. Please note that CPH does not provide direct monetary assistance, but these lists are helpful in finding community agencies that do provide this assistance.

Columbus Public Health (CPH) Women’s Health Family Planning Center

Provides pregnancy care, pregnancy testing, gynecological exams, birth control, STD treatment and well-women’s health care. They offer a sliding scale fee for those without insurance, and many insurances are accepted. Services are provided by appointment only, except for pregnancy testing which is on a walk-in basis.

Program: offers a wide range of services for the entire family including, comprehensive primary care, OB/GYN, dental, vision, behavioral health, pharmacy (prescriptions are available at reduced cost), nutrition and spiritual care.

Nationwide Children’s Hospital (NCH) Teen Pregnancy Program (TaP)

Offers prenatal and postpartum care for pregnant women up too the age of 21 and 6 months. This program also focuses on the overall health of mother and baby which may include the entire family and the father-to-be. A multi-disciplinary team works to support safe infant care, birth control options, positive parenting and school/family balance. Parental consent required at first visit for patients under the age of 18.

Ohio Medicaid Healthy Start & Healthy Families

Provides free and low-cost health care coverage to families, children (birth through age 20) and pregnant women. Coverage includes doctor visits, hospital care, pregnancy services, vision, dental and mental health services. Go online for the exact income guidelines.

  • Healthy Start includes Medicaid and CHIP programs. The Medicaid program is available to children (up to age 19) and pregnant women in families with a low income.
  • Healthy Families is a Medicaid program available to families with children (younger than age 19) and a low income.

Ohio Tobacco Quit Line

Free telephone counseling is available to all Ohio residents interested in quitting smoking or the use of other tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes. Participants in phone counseling may also be eligible to receive up to 8 weeks of free nicotine patches, gum or lozenges. There is also a free Pregnancy Program, specifically designed to help and support pregnant woman who wish to stop smoking. The Pregnancy Program includes incentives for the completion of coaching calls.

OhioHealth Wellness on Wheels (WOW): Women’s Health & Prenatal Care

The WOW mobile unit offers women’s health care, for females ages 13 and older, regardless of an ability to pay. Their mobile unit is staffed with a multidisciplinary team of OB/GYN physicians. They provide prenatal, postpartum, and women’s health services, including: ultrasounds, nutrition counseling with a dietitian, access to a social worker to help find additional services and resources, access to birth control, and STI checks. They also offer transportation if needed.

PrimaryOne Health

Provide a wide range of services to teens and adults at many locations in Central Ohio. Services include pregnancy testing, obstetric / gynecology care, contraception, well woman exams, and treatment of pelvic pain; low cost dental care, including fillings, exams, cleanings and extractions. They also provide vision, behavioral and pediatric services. Uninsured patients may pay for services based on a sliding scale. They accept most health insurances as well, including Medicaid.
