Girl Scouts

Guadalupe Center Youth Program
The primary goal of the Youth Program is to provide Westside youth ages five through twenty with organized year-round athletic and recreational programs. Additionally, GCI strives to develop cultural awareness, creative use of leisure time, and interest in community projects.
The Youth Program provides a wide array of activities for interested Westside youth as well as a variety of clubs like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

Operation Breakthrough
Ages 6-18
More than 300 children are involved in the after school activities offered at Operation Breakthrough. Some of the services offered include tutoring, homework help, book club meetings, supervised outdoor play, and peer support groups. Operation Breakthrough also provides instruction in special interest areas through a program called “Betsy’s Kids.” This program provides children and opportunity to enhance their talents in karate, computers, sewing, photography, dance, athletics, drama and art.
A summer enrichment program provides children a fun and educational environment when school is out of session. Some of the activities offered include job shadowing with professionals in the community, swimming lessons, field trips, art classes, sports camps, reading programs, community service and performing arts experience.
Operation Breakthrough is a United Way agency which helps children living in poverty reach their greatest potential.

After School Care
After School Care at Independence offers a variety of activities to choose from, including a computer lab, homework assistance, arts and crafts, music class, bible study, games, sports, girl guards and sunbeams, boys adventure corps and more. Dinner is also available in this program. Note: After School Care in Independence does close during the Christmas season due to a lack of space with other seasonal services.

Biddy Basketball
At the Olathe Corps, the gym is busy with young basketball players competing in a healthy, supervised environment. The basketball league has 1,300 participants from kindergarten through seventh grade. In the fall, a basketball program is open to younger children, kindergarten through 3rd grade, while grades 4th through 7th meet from January to March.

KEY (Keep Encouraging Youth) Program
This program designed to reach at-risk students from Westport Middle School, meets weekdays after school at the Westport Temple Corps. Activities for both boys and girls include field trips, sports, Bible study, crafts and instruction in a variety of areas, from positive role models. The purpose is to offer these youth productive and fun after-school activities as an alternative to the destructive forces out on the streets.

YMCA Before and After School Programs
Ages 5-12
YMCA Before and After School Child Care offers a curriculum that appeals to children and at the same time teaches confidence, encourages self-expression and enriches social development. Daily topics include character development, health and wellness, homework support, literature and literacy, arts and humanities, science and technology.
YMCA Kids Clubs are associated with school districts in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. In addition to Before and After School Care, YMCA also offers No School Days, Summer Day Camps, Kids Night Out, Kids University, and Aquatic and Sports activities.
Tuition varies slightly between school districts.
People who participate in the YMCA Financial Assistance Program include
- Youth referred by schools, churches and organizations
- Adults who are temporarily out of work
- Individuals who are experiencing financial hardships
- People on fixed incomes
- People who are overwhelmed by medical bills
We also provide special assistance to our military personnel and their families.

Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City
Ages 5-18
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City provide a fun and safe environment for children between the ages of 5 and 18 to learn, play and grow. The clubs offer enrichment programs for nearly 10,000 youth each year in five core areas: Character and Leadership; Education, Technology and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; Fitness and Recreation; and The Arts.
Membership fees are $15 per school year and $125 for the 10-week summer program. There are five locations serving the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.

Camp Barnabas
Ages 7-17
Camp Barnabas is a non-demoninational Christian faith-based series of week-long camps aimed at giving children with disability or disease a experience that is fun, restorative, and inspirational. Each term offered targets children with specific physical disabilities, developmental disabilities or chronic illness. Siblings of affected children are also welcome at this camp.
Cost of attendance:
Tuition $600, Registration Fee $50
Camp Barnabas offers limited sponsorships to help offset this burden. We are one of the very few non-denominational Christian camps in the country where children with serious illnesses or disabilities, and their siblings, can attend regardless of their ability to pay.

The Youth Development Center provides a safe and supportive environment for youth to participate in a variety of activities and programs that support education, encourage growth and increase community involvement.
