EXPLORE – Expanding Life-skills and Opportunities in a Recreational Environment
Incorporating the arts, recreation, health promotion, and academics, the EXPLORE program facilitates positive connections among peers and adults. The program provides opportunities for youth to develop life-skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and self confidence. The EXPLORE program participants and their families also have access to mental health prevention and intervention services.

Salvation Army
In addition to the youth character building programs that are built into the structure of all the Corps Community Centers, such as Sunbeams, Girl Guards, Scouts, Corps Cadets and Junior Soldiers, there are special programs designed to meet the needs of today’s youth. After School Community Center
The enrichment program at this community center offers after-school tutoring, basketball, weight room, game room, computer instruction and a quiet place for students to do their homework.

After School Care
Students in grades K thru 12, are welcome to attend this program for an incredibly low yearly fee. After School Care at Independence also offers a variety of activities to choose from, including: a computer lab, homework assistance, arts and crafts, music class, bible study, games, sports, girl guards and sunbeams, boys adventure corps and more. Dinner is also available in this program.

KEY (Keep Encouraging Youth) Program
This program designed to reach at-risk students from Westport Middle School, meets weekdays after school at the Westport Temple Corps. Activities for both boys and girls include field trips, sports, Bible study, crafts and instruction in a variety of areas, from positive role models. The purpose is to offer these youth productive and fun after-school activities as an alternative to the destructive forces out on the streets.

YMCA
The YMCA of Kansas City offers many activities open to teenaged youths in the metropolitan area. In addition to sporting leagues, there are achievement programs and social activities. Contact your local YMCA, YMCA of Greater Kansas City or your local school district for more information.
