NY STATE EVICTION MORATORIUM: On August 12, the courts issued a new order extending the universal eviction moratorium until at least October 1, 2020. The moratorium applies to residential tenants in all types of housing. Through this extension, landlords will not be able to evict tenants due to a lack of payment until 10/01/2020. The moratorium also applies to all pre-existing orders. If you are struggling to pay rent, consider calling the HRA’s Infoline at 718-557-1399 and ask about the One Shot Deal emergency assistance program. For free legal advice and counsel call 311 and ask for the “Tenant Helpline”, or fill out the Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants’ Contact Us form. MORATORIA DE ORDENES DE DESALOJO EN EL ESTADO DE NUEVA YORK: El 12 de agosto de 2020 las cortes expidieron una nueva orden extendiendo la moratoria universal para desalojos hasta el 1ro de Octubre de 2020. La moratoria aplica a inquilinos de viviendas. Esto significa que propietarios no podrán desalojar inquilinos hasta el 1ro de octubre por falta pago del alquiler. La moratoria tambien aplica a ordenes de desalojo pre-existentes. Si estás teniendo dificultades para pagar la renta, llama a la línea de información 718-557-1399 del HRA y pregunta por el programa de asistencia de emergencia “One Shot Deal”.  Para consejería jurídica llama a la línea 311 y pregunta por la “Línea de Ayuda para Inquilinos” o llena el formulario de contacto del Departamento de Protección de Inquilinos. Please become familiar with the Parent Handouts. They are the backbone of this project. They are broken down by category; within each handout, you will find a description of the social service agency and a phone number. You may also find a link to the agency’s web site that you can access and learn more about that agency. You can easily print any parent handout by clicking on the handout and choosing “print” from your web browser. Your selected parent handout will be sent to your printer in a custom printer-friendly format.

For providers, download these parent handouts and give them to the families that you have identified that are in need of a particular service. After you distribute the handout, document which handout you gave so that you can get feedback at the next encounter.

For families, please use the information provided by the parent handouts, and email us with any problems or successes.

On our website, you will also find links to other agencies that also have comprehensive advocacy information for families. Also we will feature various social service organizations every month.

There are also various Resources, Laws and Definitions that pertain to families, sample advocacy letters as well as a downloadable CAP poster and PDA.
