New York City Literacy Programs
The Department of Youth and Community Development coordinates the city’s literacy services.
- Adolescent Literacy Program – After school program for students in grades 6 and 7, designed to strengthen reading, writing, and communication skills.
- Adult Literacy Program – Helps adults acquire reading and writing skills.
- English Language Program – For those who speak little or no English.
- Family Literacy Program – Offers parents and their school-aged children the opportunity to work together on developing their reading, writing, and English-language skills.
