Summer Youth Employment Program
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is the nation’s largest youth employment program, connecting NYC youth between the ages of 14 and 21 with career exploration opportunities and paid work experience each summer.
Participants can earn money based on their attendance and participation. SYEP lasts six weeks from July to August. All applications to internships programs opened March 1st, 2022 and the deadline is May 6, 2022. Click on for the application page.
SYEP Younger Youth (14-15 years old): Activities will take place for 12.5 hours a week for six weeks in July and August and participants will receive up to a $700 stipend based on their attendance and participation.
SYEP Older Youth (16-21 years old): Youth will earn the New York State minimum wage of $15.00 an hour and may work up to 25 hours per week for six weeks in July and August.
— Young people 14-21 can explore various career paths through various paid-summer jobs throughout NYC.
— Must reside within the five boroughs of New York City.
— Be legally allowed to work in the United States.
How to Apply
To apply to the program you can do one of the following:
— Visit the website and follow the links to fill out the application online or download a paper copy. Application deadline is May 6, 2022
— Paper applications can also be obtained from one of the community based organizations or providers operating the program. A complete list of authorized SYEP providers can be found on Application deadline is May 6, 2022
— Youth can be selected to the program via two options, through a lottery or direct recruitment by an SYEP provider to specialized programming.
— If selected by the lottery you will be contacted via the email address and/or phone number.
— Participants are paid weekly with a debit card or with Direct Deposit to a bank account of their choice.

El Programa de Empleo Juvenil de Verano (SYEP) es el programa de empleo juvenil más grande del país, que conecta a los jóvenes de NYC entre las edades de 16 y 21 años con oportunidades de exploración de carreras y experiencia laboral remunerada cada verano.

New York District Attorney’s High School Internship Program
The New York District Attorney Internship Program is a robust internship that offers students residing hands-on experience with the Criminal Justice System. Interns help Assistant District Attorneys and other staff members in their work, attend presentations and trips, and also participate in a mock trial.
— Applicants must live in Manhattan or attend school in Manhattan (no exceptions will be made).
— Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors in high school at the time they apply (current freshmen may not apply).
Dates and Compensation
— Applicants must commit to attending one of the two available 4-week internship sessions
Virtual Session 1: July 5-29, 2022.
Virtual Session 2: August 1-26, 2022.
— Interns will participate virtually Monday – Thursday from 11 am – 1 pm with the possibility of in-person opportunities contingent upon COVID-19.
— The internship is virtual and may not offer compensation, contact for more info.

The application opens January 31, 2022. The deadline to apply is March 18, 2022, at 5:00 pm (Eastern Standard Time). Applicants must attach the following:
— A one-page resume.
— A 300-word essay describing your interest in criminal justice (for example, you may submit an essay discussing what “one standard of justice for all” means to you).

The Career Essentials Workshops by Future and Options helps high school students (16 year old or older) learn and hone their communication, presentation, and workplace etiquette skills. Thirteen workshops will be offered in a remote format in late February.

Once your application is submitted, Future and Options will contact you to arrange a virtual group interview. Students will be selected after this interview.

The Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) offers exciting employment opportunities for young people between 14 and 24.
Visit the DYCD Discover website and check the programs’ enrollment dates, requirements, and additional information.
Check off “Afterschool Programs” and click on the “Search” button. In the new page type “Workforce Connect” into the keyword search box. Then filter programs by zip code or neighborhood. Click on Search.
