South Bronx United (SBU) is a non-profit organization that offers soccer training to help children build character, teamwork, and leadership so that they can succeed in high school, college, careers, and beyond. The soccer programs at SBU differ depending on the child’s level of experience. However, the Recreational Soccer Programs are accessible to both girls and boys regardless of level.
 
Eligibility
– Must be an NYC resident.
– Programming available for children (boys and girls) ages 4-15.
– No proof of immigration status is required.

Activities & Dates
– Sessions and games happen on Saturdays at Macombs Dam Park, Mullaly Park, or Patterson Park.
– Summer Soccer Camp (ages 5-11) will be held July 5 – Aug 11 at Macombs Dam Park.
– Weekly after-school sessions are also offered.

Prices
– Prices for enrollment range from $55 to $75 depending on the program. The costs to participate in the following season vary, although they are still affordable.
– The enrollment fee covers a jersey and socks. Children are welcome to play with regular sneakers if they do not own cleats.
– In cases of financial hardship, families can submit financial assistance for a partial or complete waiver. If the family gets SNAP and lives in public housing apartments, it may qualify for the waiver.

Summer Rising

Summer Rising is a free, safe, and fun academic and enrichment program for NYC students currently in grades K-8. It is run by local school leaders and trusted community-based organizations in every neighborhood. Breakfast, lunch, and a snack are served to each student.
 
Eligibility
— Any student who lives in NYC and is currently in grades K-8 is eligible to apply for Summer Rising 2023.
— If a student is a New York City resident but does not attend a Department of Education (DOE) public school, they should apply to a program that is in their neighborhood.
— If your child attends a public school in NYC, you can enroll him/her at any location across the city.
 
Activities and Dates
— Academic support, field trips, arts activities, and outdoor recreation.
— Program duration is for six weeks from 8am – 6pm.
July 5-August 18 for K-5, and July 5-August 11 for grades 6-8.
 
How to Apply
— The Summer Rising Enrollment Portal nycenet.edu/surveys/summerrising will provide one centralized place for families to enroll in a program.
— Families will enroll in a single program (they cannot submit multiple applications) and will be able to confirm their spot immediately upon completing the enrollment process.
— Registration opens on April 17th, 2023 and ends on May 1st, 2023.

— After you complete your child’s enrollment, the DYCD CBO paired with your child’s Summer Rising program will be reaching out to support you in completing and collecting a short follow-up form.

The NYC Parks Summer Day Camp program offers children ages 6 to 13 a wide array of activities for a fun summer. Campers engage in sports, fitness, and outdoor adventures while taking part in many of New York City’s rich cultural and educational opportunities.
 
Eligibility
All children from ages 6-13 residing in New York.
 
Activities and Dates
— Activities include arts and crafts, field games, sports clinics, computer classes, STEAM programs (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics), cultural and educational trips, and nature exploration with the Urban Park Rangers. *Swimming is not a guaranteed activity this year.*
— Specific activities, dates, and trip destinations will depend upon the camp location. Check them out on this link.
— Cost: $25 per-child registration fee. Full camp fee, (Regular Day $500, Extended Day $575.
— Camp will take place from July 6 – August 18, 2023.
 
How to Apply
— The program is extremely popular and registration is conducted through a lottery.
— You can enter the lottery any time from March 8 – 21, 2023. The lottery is no longer accepting submissions.
