Child Adolescent and Family Services (CAFS) is an Ambulatory Psychiatry Service certified by the New York State Office of Mental Health that provides outpatient clinic treatment for children and adolescents (from birth through age 18) and their families.
 
Eligibility
If a parent or health care provider suspects that any child under three years of age has a developmental delay (including speech, motor, social emotional, vision or hearing), they can request an evaluation by calling 311 in New York City. All children must be referred to New York City to access the CAFS program services. Eligibility for Early Intervention services can only be determined by State-approved evaluators under contract with New York City.
 
Services At the Center
– Comprehensive evaluation.
– Individual, group, and family therapy.
– Parent training and support.
– Pharmacologic evaluation and ongoing medication management.
– Case management services.
– Crisis intervention.
 
Programs
► Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Program: provides evidence-based comprehensive DBT treatment for adolescents ages 14-18, at risk of engaging in self-harming behaviors, and with mood and impulse issues.
► Social Skills Group Therapy Program: provides weekly, group therapy (Coping Power, Incredible Years, structured play therapy) for children ages 7-12 who struggle with disruptive behavior, including attention-deficit, and oppositional and defiant behaviors.
► The Therapeutic Nursery: is a center-based Early Intervention Program whose mission is to provide services for toddlers 1-3-year-old with developmental delays and/or behavioral problems. The services offered at the Therapeutic Nursery include special instruction, family counseling, and family support. We work in a collaborative team setting, which includes a special education teacher, a social worker, and child psychiatry fellows.
