The unemployment benefit is available for workers that have lost their jobs at no fault of their own and are ready, willing, and actively looking for work.
Eligibility
— You must be searching and ready for work, and willing to attend meetings at your closest Labor Department Office to qualify for benefits
— If you work part-time you may be able to claim benefits (partial UI)
— If you work more than 30 hours or earn more than $504 in a week, you will not be eligible for benefits

How to Apply
— Get ready your social security number, ID (Driver’s License or Motor Vehicle ID number, Alien Registration Card Number), phone number, address, bank account number or routing number
— Names, addresses, phone numbers of all employers of the last 18 months and wage details
— Create a NY.GOV account at labor.ny.gov/signin and hit the button “Create an NY.GOV account”. If you have an account do not create a new one. For help with your account visit on.ny.gov/techhelp
— File a New Unemployment Insurance and claim your benefits at the Department of Labor website
— Submit required documentation on the Department of Labor website

After You Apply
— Once a claim is filed, it takes three to six weeks to receive your first payment
— During this time, complete and return questionnaires and phone calls from the Department of Labor
— Continue to claim weekly benefits if you are unemployed and meet the eligibility requirements while waiting for your approval
— If you are eligible, you will receive any back weeks of benefits owed with your first payment
