WELCOME CENTER FOR IMMIGRANTS AND INTERNATIONALS

The center helps immigrants and internationals with a variety of issues, ranging from housing and employment to starting a new business, accessing affordable health care, assistance in filling out immigration forms, finding ESL classes, or taking a driver’s license exam. They are located in Squirrel Hill. Multilingual staff members are available to answer questions.

PITTSBURGH REFUGEE CENTER

The PRC is a community-based nonprofit organization based in Pittsburgh to serve the refugee population. The organization’s stated mission is ‘to empower refugees to become self-sufficient and integrated into their new communities’. They work towards these goals by encouraging economic, social, and educational equality. The services they provide include case management, education, health, cultural adjustment, and employment. They also work on education, outreach, and advocacy for the community at large as well as research on local as well as international levels.

PITTSBURGH REFUGEE & IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE CENTER (PRIAC)

As a division of Jewish Family&Children’s Service, PRIAC works collaboratively with the Career Development Center and the Welcome Center for Immigrants&Internationals. This organization provides services to individuals with limited financial resources offered at nominal fees. The services they provide include resettlement services, immigration services, naturalization and asylee services. They can help with clients with legal documentation as well as vocational training, ESL tutoring, and housing assistance and much more.

Website that provides information for new international immigrants to the Pittsburgh region. Offers information on obtaining visas, provides a monthly calendar of events, and has a comprehensive listing of ESL sites.

ALLEGHENY COUNTY CENTER FOR ESL (ACCESL)

Offers free ESL classes for adults. Rolling admission allows students to enter at any time. Tutoring and workplace classes may be arranged. Interested individuals should call to make an appointment for a placement test.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES REFUGEE SERVICE

This religious organization helps refugees resettle in the Pittsburgh area. The program is geared specifically towards families and individuals who have come to the US as declared refugees. They provide services relating to housing, employment, child care support, respite care, adoption and more. They operate in the following counties: Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington.
