Archaeology Week
Each summer the York County Heritage Trust partners with the York County Department of Parks and Recreation to offer two sessions of Archaeology Week. Students ages 10-13 are exposed to the basics of archaeology, first hand as they participate in actual excavations at real archaeological sites. Campers also learn about how artifacts are preserved and interpreted in a museum setting with visits to York County Heritage Trust sites and museums.

YWCA York supports families in three different school districts in York County by providing before-and/or after-school care as well as full-day care for school-age students (Kindergarten through 6th grade, except where noted) when school is out of session. At our school-age sites, staff members work cooperatively with the schools to meet families’ needs. We strive to create an environment where students can get what they need before and after school — fun and active outdoor play; creative arts; engaging, child-directed projects; support in homework; opportunities to practice emerging pro-social and leadership skills; and a safe place to build friendships and solid relationships with adults. Breakfast and snack are also provided.

The YMCA is so much more thana pool, a fitness center, or a gymnasium. It’s a movement, a bold and concerted effort to build strong kids, strong families, and a stronger York through a spectrum of endeavors and services. From youth development programs… to family focused activities… all the way to urban renewal initiatives that enhance our city while creating affordable housing opportunities. No, this is not your father’s YMCA. It’s your family’s… your community’s… and, more than ever before, yours.

In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trip, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong. Girl Scouting helps girls develop their full individual potential; relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect; develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making; and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others.

Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes and, through nearly a century of experience, understands that helping youth puts us on a path toward a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
Scouting, with programs for young men and women, helps meet these six essential needs of the young people growing up in our society: Mentoring, Lifelong Learning, Faith Traditions, Serving Others, Healthy Living, Building Character.
