Reach Out And Read
Reach out and Read is a national non-profit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children in exam rooms across the country. The organization also emphasizes to parents the importance of reading aloud to children to promote children’s developmental skills and success in school. Thomas Hart Family Practice and the York Hospital community Health Center participate.

York County Libraries – Story times around the County
Libraries throughout York County offer story times for all ages, some even starting at birth. Your child can listen, learn, make crafts and maybe even read to a fuzzy pal. Most story times do require pre-registration, but there is no charge for the story time. Story time is at 10:00 a.m. on Monday’s throughout the summer starting June 2014.

York County Libraries – Summer Quest
A summer reading program that offers kids and teens a way stay active in mind and body. They have free, fun activities throughout the simmer. The theme for 2023 is “Oceans of Possibilities”. By logging minutes of reading, attending programs, completing activities and doing GO York hikes, participants can earn points throughout the summer. Register online starting May 15th. Pick up Oceans of Possibilities packet starting June 1st. Log minutes and hikes and pick up prizes until August 28th. Last day to take GO York hike is August 21st.

York County Literacy Council
The York County Literacy Council provides literacy services to adults of York County. Programs include English as a second language, adult reading programs to help improve reading, writing, spelling, book clubs, computer aided classes, and tutoring. Also provides workplace training and career exploration workshops. Some programs require registration.
